Leaf batiks

When we had added about 4 layers of paint to our leaf batiks Mrs Graham painted on the Indian ink. Everything went black. We didn't do it ourselves because it is permanent ink. When the ink was dry we washed it off. This is what happened.

Well done to Justus for filming.

Maths with DST

We made a kiss (cross) out of 5 multi-link cubes. Then we talked about how to make the kiss grow and predicted how many cubes we needed to add to make the next kiss. In pairs, with our DST friends, we did some building and working out to find out the number of cubes needed for the 2nd, 3rd, 4th....kisses. Every one noticed an adding pattern. Each time we added 4 cubes to make the next kiss. Some of us worked out how many cubes would be needed for the 100th kiss. We didn't build it - there wasn't time!! We knew that we would need 401 cubes. This is what we did 4 x 100 + 1 =401. We multiplied by 4 because each kiss has 4 branches. The 100 is in the sum because we were calculating the result for the 100th kiss and +1 because there is always 1 cube in the middle to hold the branches together. Here are some pictures of us working.

French boxing

During Go Global week the Year 2s had a visit, in their sports lesson, from a French boxing expert. Here are some photos of them having a go! It was great fun but a bit tiring because after a while the gloves felt heavy.

Go Global Week

This week we are going global. By Friday we will have visited 5 different places, Australia, Austria, Egypt, Alaska, and Uganda.
Today we visited Australia and found out that while it is summer here in France it is winter in Australia. We also learnt about Aboriginal art and had a go ourselves.

Leaf batik

As part of our forest topic we are making batik pictures of different leaves.

Ice Balls

Miss Ash brought in some ice balls and we worked in groups to make careful observations of what happened to them throughout the day.

Bouconne Forest

Last Thursday we spent a day discovering the flora and fauna in our local forest.
This is a map of the forest.

Here are some photos from the day.

Commotion in the Ocean

Last week we read 'Commotion in the Ocean' by Giles Andreae. We made a joint display to show the ocean layers.

During Big Write we all wrote about the animals in the ocean. Here is Noémie reading her work.

listen to ‘Noémie’ on Audioboo
We each made an octopus and a 'plate fish'.

We Are What We Eat - our IPC topic

Visiting Pibrac market
Last Wednesday morning we visited Pibrac market to find out about local produce and to buy ingredients to make soup. We even found time to do some sketching.

Making a fruit salad
Every child brought in a piece of fruit and we made a fruit salad.

The Entry Point
We had an International Picnic and our families prepared lots of delicious treats for us all to sample.
