Today all the classes in Primary have been
working on ideas to make our school an even friendlier and more welcoming
place. In Y2 we have thought about how we like things to be fair and how every
child should feel safe and happy in our school. We read two stories about
bullying, Chrysanthemum by Kevin
Henkes and Willy the Wimp by Anthony
Browne. We talked about the put-downs used by the characters in Chrysanthemum and about the hurt we can
cause by saying unkind things. Then we listed all the kind things and
encouraging comments that we like to say or to hear from other people.
Yesterday we visited our new friends in CP at
a local French school called Le Ferradou. They had invited us to spend the
whole day with them. When we arrived we introduced ourselves and said where we
are from. There were pupils from France, England, Madagascar, Wales, Myanmar,
Spain, Malaysia, Vietnam, USA and Mexico. What an international lot!
They had been cooking and had made some
delicious treats to share with us. We ate these outside and then played some
games to get to know each other a bit better.
Then we went back into the classroom where
their teacher, Beatrice, showed us how to make Christmas elves for a class
advent calendar. We listened carefully to the instructions she gave in French
and then we worked hard to make our own elf. All our elves were different
colours. Inside each elf the teachers hid surprises for us.
After a picnic lunch together in the sun we
played some more games, including number games and parachute games.
Back in class, we presented our posters,
letters and self-portraits to the CP pupils.
We have promised that we will invite them to
our school for a day, so we need to get busy choosing a date and making the
invite.
Thank you to Le Ferradou for such a great day
of making and doing in French.
On Monday Madame Burgaud gave Miss Ash a large brown envelope. Miss Ash asked Iman to open the envelope. Inside we discovered lots of pictures, a letter and a class photo from the CP2 class at Le Ferradou school, Blagnac. Le Ferradou is a French school. This year we will be working on a project together, so they decided to write and introduce themselves. We loved reading their letter and looking at their self-portraits. We wrote letters back to them and Miss Ash is going to post these at the weekend.
Here are Cristina, Olivia and Miguel reading out their letters.
We finished our Forces topic in Science with an investigation into whether objects float or sink. We worked really well in our groups to take turns, to listen to each other and to avoid flooding the classroom.
