Electricity
In our science lessons we have been learning about electricity. Last week we learnt about the dangers of electricity and now we are learning how to build an electrical circuit. We all managed to light the bulb and some of us were able to include a switch in our circuits. Our next task is to light up Rudolf's nose. Watch this space for photos...

Friendly Friday
Today all the classes in Primary have been
working on ideas to make our school an even friendlier and more welcoming
place. In Y2 we have thought about how we like things to be fair and how every
child should feel safe and happy in our school. We read two stories about
bullying, Chrysanthemum by Kevin
Henkes and Willy the Wimp by Anthony
Browne. We talked about the put-downs used by the characters in Chrysanthemum and about the hurt we can
cause by saying unkind things. Then we listed all the kind things and
encouraging comments that we like to say or to hear from other people.

Our visit to Le Ferradou school
Yesterday we visited our new friends in CP at
a local French school called Le Ferradou. They had invited us to spend the
whole day with them. When we arrived we introduced ourselves and said where we
are from. There were pupils from France, England, Madagascar, Wales, Myanmar,
Spain, Malaysia, Vietnam, USA and Mexico. What an international lot!
They had been cooking and had made some delicious treats to share with us. We ate these outside and then played some games to get to know each other a bit better.
Then we went back into the classroom where their teacher, Beatrice, showed us how to make Christmas elves for a class advent calendar. We listened carefully to the instructions she gave in French and then we worked hard to make our own elf. All our elves were different colours. Inside each elf the teachers hid surprises for us.
After a picnic lunch together in the sun we played some more games, including number games and parachute games.
Back in class, we presented our posters, letters and self-portraits to the CP pupils.
We have promised that we will invite them to our school for a day, so we need to get busy choosing a date and making the invite.
Thank you to Le Ferradou for such a great day of making and doing in French.

A letter from Le Ferradou
On Monday Madame Burgaud gave Miss Ash a large brown envelope. Miss Ash asked Iman to open the envelope. Inside we discovered lots of pictures, a letter and a class photo from the CP2 class at Le Ferradou school, Blagnac. Le Ferradou is a French school. This year we will be working on a project together, so they decided to write and introduce themselves. We loved reading their letter and looking at their self-portraits. We wrote letters back to them and Miss Ash is going to post these at the weekend.
Here are Cristina, Olivia and Miguel reading out their letters.

Photos of our floating and sinking investigation
We finished our Forces topic in Science with an investigation into whether objects float or sink. We worked really well in our groups to take turns, to listen to each other and to avoid flooding the classroom.

Bikes in School!
Today we brought our bikes and scooters into school. While we were in our French lesson, Miss Ash and Mrs Greenland went outside and drew a road system with chalk onto the playground. There were T-junctions, zebra crossings and roundabouts. They put out lots of road signs to help us find our way and stay safe. After French, we all went into the playground and worked in groups taking it in turns to sketch our bikes, to carry out a bike-check and to ride around on the roads. We learnt loads about road signs, about the details on our bikes (we had to look very carefully as we sketched) and about how to ride safely and confidently. But most importantly, we had wonderful fun!

Venn Diagrams in Maths
Today our Maths lesson was about sorting data on a Venn diagram. We worked in pairs and below is an example showing Rhys and Jesse's work. Thanks to BEAM for a great activity idea.
Then Miss Ash had an email from Mr Noble, who teaches Maths in Secondary, saying that his class had made a huge Venn diagram on the playground. He was inviting other classes to add their information. We rushed over with our chalk! Their Venn diagram was more complicated than ours (it had 4 circles) so we spent some time working it out. Then we added our information about what we had for breakfast, by drawing a stick person in the correct place.
Here are some pictures of us working:
Thanks to Mr Noble and his students for including us. We love being in a school where Primary and Secondary can share ideas and learning.

Mystery Music
Listen to this music. What does it make you think of? Why do you think I have chosen to share it with you? What instruments can you hear?
QuadBlogging
This week we will be visiting 3b at Brookburn Primary to have a look at their blog and find out what they have been learning about.

Our recount
We performed this recount of our trip to Toulouse at our assembly today. Lots of people asked if it could go on the blog, so we recited it one last time back in class and took a video. Here it is...

Design Technology - Vehicles
Our D&T project over the next few weeks is all about vehicles. We will be making our own cars, but first we brought in lots of different toy vehicles and made some careful observations. We worked in pairs to look at each vehicle; discussing how each vehicle is used and looking at the number and size of the wheels.

Our dragons
Today Miss Ash read us this story
and then we searched the classroom for dragon eggs. Everyone found one and we watched our tiny dragons hatch out. Afterwards we did some writing where we described our dragons.
Listen to Rhys P read his work to the class.

An improvised poem about bikes
Lauren, Jesse, Maria, Rhys W, Pablo and Alicia worked in a small group to brainstorm ideas about bikes and they made up this poem.
Poetry - Transport poems
We have been sharing some poems that link with our topic on transport. We listened to this poem by Michael Rosen today in our Literacy lesson. It made us laugh.
This is another fun poem by Michael Rosen about travelling to Boxland.
What could be in the box? Would you look inside?

Maths
Last week we did some maths work on shape and we had a go at these two tasks.

We have been practising our estimation with this great number line tool.
We have been learning to add and subtract using number lines to help and we had a go at this game. Why don't you have a game at home?

Transport Trip
Yesterday we went on a trip into Toulouse where we used lots of different types of transport. We went by train, tram, metro, boat, walking and coach. Our trip was the 'Entry Point' to our new topic 'From A to B' and we are so excited to learn more about travelling and transport.

What did you learn last year? This is what we learnt. We painted pictures to illustrate our ideas.

Our IPC topic is 'A to B', which is all about transport and we are learning about forces in science lessons. So we made paper aeroplanes and explored which ones flew the furthest, the fastest and we even discovered that some could do stunts! By changing the folds on our planes we could make them fly differently.
Do you know any good designs for making paper planes?
